About GreenPal
GreenPal is an online marketplace that links homeowners and local, vetted lawn care professionals. Users enjoy multiple bids, schedule service, pay securely, and approve the work with photo proof- all in one place.
Homeowners struggled to find reliable help, dealing with no-shows, inconsistent pricing, or cash-only payments. Lawn care professionals were also struggling. They often wasted time and fuel chasing down new clients and payments.
GreenPal’s mission was to bring order to this chaos. But as a startup, they had no platform, app, or brand identity. Just a powerful idea to build a trustworthy bridge between homeowners and service providers.
But an idea alone can’t generate revenue.
Goal of the Project
GreenPal came to our studio asking us to build their entire digital marketplace from the ground up. This brand-new platform had to be robust. Scalable. And incredibly easy to use for 2 very different types of users. Tech-savvy homeowners. On-the-go lawn care vendors.
Our key objectives were to:
- Ensure Two-Sided Simplicity: The platform needed two sides—one for homeowners to post jobs in under a minute, and one for vendors to manage jobs and their business on the go.
- Build Trust: People don’t easily trust strangers online. So we added features like vendor checks, photo proof of completed work, and secure, automatic payments.
- Create a Strong Brand: GreenPal needed more than just a working site. It needed a brand that felt reliable, easy, and professional to stand out from competitors.
- Ensure Speed and Scalability: Users had to book services for the next day without making phone calls. The design had to handle fast growth—from just 10 users a week to over 10,000.
GreenPal needed more than just an online platform. They needed their very own ecosystem. This platform had to make booking lawn care as simple as ordering a pizza.
Challenges
Building a two-sided marketplace from a blank slate is a huge undertaking. How do you design a platform that attracts homeowners when there are no pros? And how do you attract pros when there are no homeowners? We had to make the UX feel compelling for both sides from day one. To do so, we had to address several core challenges from day one:
The Trust Gap:
- How do you convince homeowners to let strangers onto their property based on a digital profile? And how do you assure lawn care pros they’ll get paid on time without chasing checks? Our design had to overcome both sides of this trust issue.
A Fragmented User Journey:
- Booking a service isn’t simple: post a job, compare bids, schedule it, approve work with photos, and pay. Our challenge was to make this multi-step flow feel smooth and easy — especially on mobile. The goal was to create a linear, stress-free experience.
The 2-Sided User Experience:
- Homeowners and vendors use the app very differently. A homeowner might log in briefly to schedule or check on a service. A vendor uses it all day to manage jobs. The UI had to serve both without compromising either experience.
Building a Scalable Architecture:
- Thousands of jobs, live bids, real-time messaging, geolocation, and secure payments — all happening at once. The system had to support this at a national scale. Performance and security had to be built in from the start.
The project required us to be more than just designers and developers. We had to be architects of a new digital economy for the lawn care industry.
Our Approach

Discover: Understanding the Grassroots Problem
We mapped real-world lawn care frustrations by shadowing homeowners and interviewing 40+ pros. Key insight: homeowners hate price haggling, pros hate chasing payments. Our design focused on solving these real, human problems—not office-based assumptions.
- Homeowners need visual proof of a job well done
- Pros need a simple tool to manage their schedule and get paid on time
- Both sides need a frictionless, secure, and transparent payment system
Homeowners valued reliability and fair pricing above all else. Inconsistent client flows. Administrative headaches of billing and collections. These were the biggest challenges for lawn care pros. Our design had to solve these core economic problems first.

Define: A Clean and Trustworthy Design Language
We studied GreenPal’s website to understand its visual identity. The design focused on trust and action, which we carried into the new UI. Forest Green symbolized growth, Deep Blue built trust, and Action Orange highlighted key CTAs like “Get Quotes.” We used clean, sans-serif fonts for readability. The hero section focused on social proof, with bold reviews like “4.9/5 ★ Based on 4,114 reviews” to build instant credibility.
We also designed key features: vetting dashboards for pros to submit verified documents, photo-based approval so homeowners could review mowing work, and single-tap payments released after approval. Press badges (Harvard, Forbes, Business Insider) added authority. Everything was mobile-first and scannable in under 8 seconds.
Design Highlights

We designed a clean, intuitive UI that streamlines the entire lawn care process. From the homeowner posting a job. To the vendor getting paid. Every step was optimized for speed and simplicity.
- The homeowner’s dashboard is minimalist. It focuses on one primary action: “Get Your Lawn Mowed!” The job posting flow is just three simple steps.
- The vendor’s dashboard is a mobile command center. It shows a map of nearby jobs available for bidding. Their current schedule. Their earnings. All at a glance.
- Photo Verification is the core trust-building feature. Vendors upload a photo of the completed job. The homeowner sees the photo, approves the work with a single tap. Payment is automatically released.
The branding is clear and consistent. The leaf-and-pin logo reinforces GreenPal as a local lawn care solution. Users just enter their address to see prices—no forms or signups. “NEXT-DAY SERVICE” banners drive urgency. If pros lose signal, all bids sync automatically once they’re back online. Everything works smoothly, even in the field.
The new GreenPal platform launched as a scalable, user-friendly marketplace—an “Uber for lawns.” It now connects thousands of homeowners with trusted lawn care pros.
- Seamless Bookings: Homeowners book vetted pros in under 90 seconds. Photo-based approvals reduce disputes. Most bookings are now next-day.
- Seamless Service Delivery: Pros bid on 5x more jobs per hour and get paid instantly—no 30-day wait. High-rated pros are auto-rewarded.
- Successful Market Launch: Secured $300K in seed funding pre-launch. Thousands of services are booked monthly. Strong design fueled rapid growth and a successful soft launch
The biggest win? Establishing GreenPal as a reliable and trustworthy name in the industry and among lawn owners. “I posted my lawn on Monday and had it cut by Wednesday. Saw a picture of the finished job on my phone and paid instantly. I didn’t even have to speak to anyone. It was magical,” says one new GreenPal user.

Final Product Showcase
The GreenPal platform continues to grow. Our team continues to support its evolution. We are focused on refining the user experience based on usage data. And on feedback from lawn owners and lawn care professionals.
We are currently working on enhancing the vendor-side tools. We plan to add more advanced route optimization features. Future phases will explore expanding the marketplace to include other home services. Snow removal. Landscaping projects. And more! Our partnership will continue to solidify GreenPal’s position as the #1 platform for managing outdoor home care.
