About Snap-E Cabs

Snap-E Cabs is pioneering sustainable urban mobility as Kolkata’s first 100% electric ride-hailing company. With a mission centered on providing world-class, zero-emission transportation, the company offers a fully electric fleet, fully transparent pricing (with no unexpected surges), and a total commitment to rider safety.

Every Snap-E Cabs fleet vehicle is fitted with an AIS140-certified GPS tracking IoT device and a physical SOS button. All drivers working with the firm are thoroughly verified and trained.

However, the effectiveness of their user-first and tech-forward vision was being hampered by a customer-facing mobile app that fell short of user expectations. This app failed to reflect the brand’s quality, safety, and vibrant identity. It failed to deliver the seamless experience their brand promised.

Goal of the Design

Snap-E Cabs approached our studio to overhaul their customer-facing mobile app and align its performance and usability with their premium, eco-friendly brand identity. Our core objectives for the new Snap-E Cabs app were to:

  • Fix Core Tracking & Navigation: The top priority was to integrate a reliable, real-time GPS tracking system. This meant replacing the underperforming map service to provide users with accurate driver locations, clear ETAs, and dependable turn-by-turn navigation.
  • Boost App Performance & Reliability: We needed to address the app’s sluggish performance by optimizing the entire user flow. We set concrete performance targets, including a sub-3-second app load time and a 99+% crash-free user session rate.
  • Modernize the User Interface (UI): The app required a visual refresh to match Snap-E’s vibrant green and orange branding. The UI also had to feature more trust-building elements like driver verification badges and an accessible SOS button. It also needed to provide easy access to regional language support and integrated UPI/GPay payment options.

Inspired by the client’s promise of simplicity, we also aimed to redesign the entire booking process to be completed in a few intuitive steps. The new UX would also incorporate post-ride engagement features like simplified ratings and a new loyalty program.

Challenges

The existing Snap-E Cabs app presented a clear set of challenges, many of which are common anxiety points in the Indian ride-hailing market:

Unreliable Tracking and Poor Visibility:

  • The old app amplified user anxiety due to its poor GPS accuracy and complete lack of reliable driver tracking. Users couldn’t trust the ETAs, see their driver’s actual location, or feel confident about their pickup.

Sluggish Performance and Instability:

  • Users frequently reported that the application was sluggish, with noticeable delays during crucial actions like searching for a cab or confirming a booking. That explained the high drop-off rates and negative user feedback.

Limited Coverage, Navigation, and Safety

  • The app was built on an underperforming map service. So, users in certain areas could not be serviced effectively. Route suggestions were often inaccurate.

Also, while every cab was equipped with top-tier safety hardware, the old app’s design did little to highlight these features. They were either hidden in menus or not presented in trust-building ways. Thankfully, we knew exactly how to address these challenges.

Snap-E Cabs was built to transform Kolkata’s commute with 100% electric, surge-free rides. To achieve this, the app required flawless coordination between three key groups:

  • Riders needing reliable pickups in a city notorious for traffic chaos
  • Drivers requiring real-time navigation to charging stations
  • Corporate clients managing employee transportation budgets

With Kolkata’s congested roads and extreme weather, all of these user groups needed guaranteed arrival times and vehicle tracking throughout the year. To understand these users more, we conducted street intercept interviews across the city and partnered with Snap-E’s operations team to map all monsoon and festival-season pain points.

Architecture & Core Solutions

Define: Architecture & Core Solutions

With the problems clearly defined, we started engineering apt architectural solutions. The most critical decision was to switch the entire platform to Google Maps. This single move was planned to resolve the core issues of location coverage, GPS accuracy, and reliable navigation. We then re-architected the user flow to simplify the booking process into a few intuitive steps.We also defined the integration logic for a multi-payment gateway system (UPI and GPay) because that’s what the city’s travellers wanted.

Visually align the new app UI with Snap-E’s vibrant green and orange branding – that was the first priority. Once those visual details were approved, we developed multiple interactive wireframes + prototypes that showcased the new, streamlined booking flows. They also let us rigorously test every screen, every in-app interaction.

We added more trust-building elements, like “Verified Driver” badges with driver details, to the UI. We refined every user journey within the app.

After multiple rounds of wireframing + prototyping + user testing, we were ready to give the development team:

  • A comprehensive design system and detailed documentation specifying all UI components, brand colors, spacing, and interaction states
  • High-fidelity, interactive prototypes that included everything from minor UI details (spacing, typography) to all major interaction guidelines

The new Snap-E Cabs app design was successful. Its intuitive, high-performance UI is built on a solid UX foundation for speed and reliability.

Our development team is now actively implementing the provided design files. Once launched, the new app is expected to: trust through consistently reliable performances

  • Make the ride-booking process faster, more intuitive
  • Improve driver visibility and location accuracy with the more robust real-time tracking features
  • Reinforce Snap-E Cabs’ position as the premier electric mobility service in Kolkata
