Design and Development for Pretaa

Pretaa is a behavioral analytics company. Its solutions aim to revolutionize addiction recovery and behavioral health. By partnering with biometric makers like Google Fitbit and developing their own proprietary Smart Rings, Pretaa provides caregivers and treatment centers with real-time biometric data.

Pretaa helps create a holistic view of a patient’s body and mind with these solutions. This data-based, easily graspable, holistic view of patient health drives better healthcare outcomes.

Pretaa approached our studio with a powerful vision: to design and build, from the ground up, their ultra-secure, clinically intelligent care delivery system — a platform capable of translating raw data from wearables (like the Google Fitbit, Apple Watch, and Pretaa’s own Smart Ring) into actionable, visually intuitive interventions.

They needed a design & technology partner to craft the complex, user-centered infrastructure and interface required to transform raw real-time biometric data into clear, meaningful, and presentable information for both patients and caregivers.

Our core objectives for developing the Pretaa platform were to:

• Design a Secure, Scalable, and HIPAA-Compliant: The first goal was to architect a backend capable of ingesting and processing millions of real-time biometric data points, while guaranteeing patient privacy through a privacy-first, zero-knowledge design framework and auditable HIPAA compliance checks.
• Ensure Seamless and Consistent Wearable Integration: We needed to design ultra-secure API integrations and data pipelines with third-party wearables like Fitbit (as well as Pretaa’s own tools) to ensure that all biometric information sourced from wearable devices was encrypted, transmitted in real-time, and displayed with visual integrity at every stage.
• Create an Actionable and Intuitive Caregiver Dashboard: The plan was to develop a user-friendly, visually clear dashboard and mobile-friendly interface (UI) for clinicians and caregivers. The UI had to present complex data in intuitive, actionable, and well-organized formats for all types of user scenarios.

As you can see, this was not just a regular app design and development project. We had to build a thoughtfully designed care delivery ecosystem that could surface meaningful data and truly visualize and understand a patient’s well-being in real time.

Achieving Pretaa’s vision required solving several critical challenges through thoughtful design and strategy:

• Data Integration: Designing a seamless system to aggregate real-time data from multiple wearables — without loss or corruption — while ensuring patients didn’t feel surveilled. A zero-knowledge architecture preserved privacy and reinforced trust in the experience.
• Security and Compliance: The platform’s design had to scale to thousands of users while visually and functionally aligning with HIPAA compliance, incorporating clear, auditable and secure data access patterns for an enterprise-ready experience.
• Translating Data into Insights: The interface couldn’t just display raw numbers — it needed to visually communicate patient well-being clearly and intuitively. Distinguishing normal activity from true distress, while avoiding caregiver alert fatigue, was a key design challenge.

The project demanded a balance of privacy-first architecture, intuitive visualization, and actionable usability to turn complex data into meaningful care.
