About Nexford University
Nexford University is a new kind of university. It is 100% online. It is radically affordable. It teaches people useful skills to get jobs anywhere in the world today. They want to help people get better jobs by making job-based learning easy to access. That is a world-changing vision. But they needed a digital campus built from scratch to deliver it.
Goal of the Design
Nexford asked us to design and develop their entire web application. “Make our unique educational model accessible to learners worldwide.” They wanted us to custom-create a sleek, scalable platform to do just that. Our specific objectives were to:
- Engineer a Seamless Global Student Journey: TCourse discovery. Enrollment. Learning. Progress tracking. Career support. The platform had to support every stage of the student lifecycle. All in one intuitive experience.
- Design for Radical Accessibility: Lagos. Manila. Rio. The web app needed to work flawlessly for students worldwide. On any device. Any connection. We had to prioritize a lightweight, responsive design.
- Build a Platform that Inspires Action: The design needed to feel energetic and motivating. It had to clearly communicate the value of a Nexford degree. It had to make the path to enrollment simple and exciting. It also has to beat skepticism with irrefutable proof. Accreditation. ROI stats. Employer logos. They all had to be included in the design.
- Create a Future-Ready Technical Foundation: The web app’s architecture had to support 6000+ learners today, 60,000+ tomorrow. It had to be robust, secure, and ready for rapid scaling. It needed to support Nexford’s mission to serve a growing global community for years to come.
Nexford needed more than a web app. They needed a custom-designed educational operating system that would encapsulate the entire student experience, from first click to graduation day.
Challenges
Making a brand-new global school and doing things differently was not going to be easy. We had to fix three things together: who can join, how to keep them learning, and how to reach many people.
Global Accessibility:
- How do you consistently deliver A-grade learning experiences to students in regions with vastly different Internet speeds and devices? Video-heavy pages would crash in Manila. Long enrollment forms would time out in Lagos. The platform couldn’t be heavy or complex. It had to be universally accessible, or the mission would fail.
Online Engagement:
- Keeping online learners motivated and supported is a massive challenge. The platform needed to be more than just a content portal. It needed integrated support features and clear progress tracking to reduce friction and keep students on the path to completion.
Trust and Credibility Gaps:
- As a new online university, Nexford had to overcome a ton of skepticism. No campus. No legacy. No trust. Learners needed proof that this was not a diploma mill. Nexus’s digital presence had to project authority, professionalism, and a level of quality that could compete with traditional institutions.
What makes NexFord different? Monthly pricing? Skills-first curricula? We also had to ensure that these USPs did not drown in walls of text. Making visitors understand the model instantly was going to be a huge challenge and a key goal.
Our Approach

Discover: Strategy and Information Architecture
Our process began by architecting a clear, conversion-focused user journey. We designed the homepage to immediately answer a prospective student’s key questions:
- “What can I learn?”
- “How much does it cost?”
- “Is it for me?”
The navigation is simple and intuitive. It guided users on a logical path from program discovery to the application process. We also created a 4-Click Mobile Flow: Name → Email → Program → Payment. No long forms. Just the essentials.

Define: Development and Performance
Our developers built a fast, secure, and fully responsive web application. We focused on web app performance and optimization from day one with:
- 5kb Image Rule: All web app images were compressed to load on 2G in <3s. No decorative bloat.
- Lazy-Loaded Video: Course previews are played only on click. This saved data for mobile users.
- Text-Over-Media: No render-blocking. Core content appears instantly while hero images load.
We also added skills-first course menus that clearly explained all the topics students can expect to learn for each course. The final web app was shaping up to be a robust, scalable, and technically flawless digital campus. This online campus was set to deliver seamless experiences to every student, everywhere.
Design Highlights

The design is built on a clean, high-contrast palette of black and white. These main colors were punctuated by vibrant, energetic yellow. This yellow was used strategically for all primary calls-to-action, like “Apply Now.” This gave the CTAs a sense of urgency and excitement. We also used:
- Social Proof: Messages like “Alumni Recommend” were placed next to courses to demonstrate their value.
- Credibility: Google. Microsoft. Facebook. GE. These logos were integrated into course pages.
- Dark Mode: Reduced eye strain for learners studying post-shift.
We also choose the typography. All images used were authentic and featured diverse, real-world learners. The entire visual language was designed to feel less like a stuffy university and more like a modern, accessible tech company.
The new Nexford web app is live, offering flexible global learning with a scalable, mobile-first design that enhances engagement:
- Course pages now load in <2s globally.
- Mobile enrollment completes in <90 seconds, so conversion rates have also increased.
- “Monthly Pricing” section clicks have doubled, and support queries have halved.
This custom-built platform now provides learners worldwide with intuitive, personalized educational experiences. The design makes every step of their educational journey seamless.
